ArmoniK Summer 2024 Newsletter
Welcome to the second edition of ArmoniK Newsletter.
Whether you are part of the growing community of users, an active ArmoniK partner or just curious about ArmoniK, this letter is made for you!
As a reminder, ArmoniK is the opensource platform that simplifies the development of complex high-performance computing applications and manages their data at scale, on any private and public clouds, all at once.
With ArmoniK you can easily scale your computation and data anywhere, while at the same time unleash the creativity and efficiency of your researchers.
In production at Crédit-Agricole CIB since mid-2022 where it has replaced both TibCo DataSynapse and IBM Symphony, ArmoniK has recently been adopted by a second bank, which is aiming to go in production end of 2024! More news to come soon…
I hope you will enjoy reading this Newsletter!
Technical additions
Computation-IO overlap
Thanks to overlap prefetch, processing time is reduced and the use of computing resources is improved.
How does it work?
When processing a task on a worker, data from the next task is fetched to prepare for processing that task. This makes it possible to switch immediately from one task to another. This has little impact on the task's computing time, as preparation uses IO while processing uses CPU.
The advantage of overlap prefetch is better machine utilization and reduced computation time.
New GUI is out
The new release comes with an improved customer experience. You can configure your GUI to suit your needs. For example, predefine your filters for displaying the number of completed tasks, or choose which columns to display.
ArmoniK is now on GCP
You're on Google Cloud Platform? No problem, maybe you've been waiting for this: we've finalized the deployment of ArmoniK on Google Cloud Platform, so you can start making the most of it right away. We use Cloud Storage and Pub/Sub services for data storage and queue to parallelize tasks.
Roadmap
API Monitoring et Event Streaming
We added an API Monitoring to display event streaming in real time. Additionally, API is simple and complete for real-time display.
What does downscaling do?
One of the problems with calculations is the non-use of nodes. With Kubernetes, when calculations dropped, it was possible to remove nodes except that they were removed randomly. As a result, nodes could be removed while in use.
Thanks to Pod Deletion Cost, we are now able to inform Kubernetes which workers need to be removed first.
The advantage: less wasted computing time and more aggressive downscaling, which means nodes are kept for shorter periods.
News and events
Since last time, we've taken part in various events in France and Germany to present ArmoniK.
The HPC community at ISC High Performance has fully captured that our smart OpenSource product is the ”next generation grid orchestrator for massive low latency simulations”. The very smart FaaS architecture is designed for hybrid environments (on-prem and on multi-clouds) and offers extremely good performance and resiliency, when compared to traditional grid orchestration solutions.
We were at the Teratec Forum, France's leading HPC event. Over two days, we demonstrated ArmoniK. Already in production at Crédit Agricole and close to be deployed in another major French bank, ArmoniK is definitely gaining traction among financial institutions in Germany, Switzerland, and the UK.
We are pleased to announce that we have presented ArmoniK at the Maison de la Simulation. This event marked an important step in our efforts to demonstrate the capabilities and innovations of our solution. We look forward to collaborating further with the scientific and industrial community to explore the many possibilities ArmoniK has to offer.
